La Verite!
The watchings of yesterday, 07/07/14.
So yesterday, I had an inexplicable urge to watch Hanaukyo Maid Tai La Verite. So I did. It’s really hard to think of LV without comparing it to the original HMT. (Stay with me here on this acronyms.) I can say it was enjoyable. That’s about all I can think of saying at the moment, so on to comparison.
Almost obviously, due to the length of the series in comparison to the (what I’m calling) original, the story had much more depth. However, it did not give off as much of a ‘cute’ vibe before. Also, Taro did not have the allergy to girls. Both of these were probably necessary elements in increasing the depth of the story.
I simply can not imagine the darker side of the story following on the original’s characters. This time, everyone was a bit stiffer and more chiseled. Not to mention the fact that everyone looks a bit scarier than before. The darker side of the story was still a nicer twist though. But to lead the original into it, almost impossible. (Although I did have an inkling of something there, remember? That came more from the allergy though…)
Roughly the first 4 episodes covered essentially what happened in the original, minus events taking place at school and a few other minor details in character, which were made up for later on. After that it was pretty much all “new” story. What I found interesting was in episode five when they’re all cosplaying at the doujin festival thing, is not that they were cosplaying, but who they were cosplaying as.
It was some of the most massive foreshadowing I’ve ever seen done in anime. If you were on your toes watching it, it’d be a giant sign saying “this is how the story ends.” Mariel cosplays as Chi from Chobits. Taro cosplays as Mahoro from Mahoromatic. The main characters from this story cosplaying as main characters from other similar love stories? Could it be more than coincidence?
I think it is. Either that or there were some people from the same production companies or something. Anyway, moving on, I also started Ayashi no Ceres. So far the story’s been told well. There have been some really nice fades between the opening scene and the OP. How the story starts with trying to kill Aya also really pisses me off. I hate that sort of injustice.
Besides that, I haven’t encountered much worth mentioning yet, but I’m sort of looking forward to it too. (There’s some OK comedic relief too.)
